The Deathday Party

The Deathday Party is a psychological thriller that's part battle royale, part police procedural, and part domestic drama.  Likewise, the score has three different flavors to it: run-of-the-mill action music, creepy atmospherics, and tearjerkers. Because of the generous music budget, I had the opportunity to record the score with an orchestra. I put a lot of extra effort into giving the musicians something interesting to play, which significantly elevated the heartbreaking scenes and imbued the unsettling ones with a lush eeriness. The score for The Deathday Party was among the largest I'd attempted, both in terms of thematic scope and production quality. Thanks to having an orchestra at my disposal, I ended up writing one of my most overtly emotional soundtracks - both in it darkness and romanticism.
